Accessing SecureFilePro for the 1st Time
  • 1. To get started, simply let us know that you want to use SecureFilePro and we'll create your account. Please make sure we have your current email address.
  • 2. Once your account has been created, you will receive an email confirmation. Click the link shown in the email to confirm your account and create your password. This notice will include instructions for accessing your client portal.
  • 3. Click the link in the email notification.
  • 4. On the next screen, you'll be asked to enter the last 4 digits of your Social Security Number (or, for business entities, your Employer Identification Number) and to create a password. Please take note of the password requirements explained in the notification. Click Submit.
  • 5. You will receive an email acknowledging your account has been set-up.
  • 6. Once your account has been verified, you will be taken to the Sign-In Screen to access your account. Enter your username and password and click Sign In
  • 7. Your Client dashboard will be displayed where you can upload / download files.
  • 8. Congratulations! The set-up of your SecureFilePro account has been successfully completed. You may now use the portal at any time.
  • 9. Please be sure to Sign Out when you are finished.

  Downloading Documents & Files
  • 1. When we upload a file for you, you'll receive a notification via email.
  • 2. Either click the link in the email, or visit https://mckernan.securefilepro.com   and Sign-In to your account.
  • 3. Navigate to the Documents from Preparer folder (under 'My Folder')
  • 4. Click the Download button for the desired file.
  • 5. The file will now be downloaded to your computer. The downloaded file will be located in your Downloads folder (or other location you may have specified).
  • 6. You're done! You may now Sign Out.

  Uploading Documents & Files
  • 1. Sign-In to mckernan.securefilepro.com  
  • 2. Navigate to the Documents to Preparer folder (under 'My Folder')
  • 3. Click the Upload button. A standard File Dialog box will be displayed, allowing you to select the file you wish to upload.
  • 4. Select the desired file and click Upload.
  • 5. The file will be uploaded and we will be automatically notified.
  • 6. You're done! You may now Sign Out.

  Helpful Hints
  • Your Client Portal is located at mckernan.securefilepro.com and is accessible only via a secure connection (https). We encourage everyone to adopt the habit of checking the address in any url link before clicking. Know where you are going.
  • You can access SecureFilePro using any of the following methods:
    • Clicking the link in any email notification from SecureFilePro
    • By entering https://mckernan.securefilepro.com into your browser's address bar
    • Directly from the McKernan Corp website (mckernan.tax) by clicking the Client Log-In button at the top of the page ()
  • All e-mail notifications will be sent from no-reply@securefilepro.com. You may wish to add this address to your Contacts to prevent these notifications from being sent to spam.
  • All links included in the notifications will be fully displayed (no url shorteners) so that you can clearly see exactly to what site the link will take you.
  • On your Client Dashboard, below My Folder is a folder named Public. From time to time, we may upload files to this folder for access by all clients. These files will be generic in nature and not contain any personally-identifiable information. (ie: forms, general notices, etc)
  • When uploading files to us, you may create folders to keep related documents together, if you wish. From the Documents to Preparer folder, click the Folder Options link. From there you can create additional folders.
  • When downloading multiple files at once, you may check the box next to each desired file, then click the Download button in the Batch bar (located above the files list). This will cause the files to be zipped into one .zip file before downloading. Once downloaded, you can then unzip the files.
  • ALWAYS Sign Out when you are finished.
  • We strongly discourage clients from accessing SecureFilePro from a public Wifi connection or other non-private computer system!
